The Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela issued a ruling on Thursday on the electoral contentious appeal filed by Nicolás Maduro to certify the results of the July 28 elections announced by the National Electoral Council.
The Supreme Court, accused of serving the ruling Chavistas, certified Maduro’s re-election for a third six-year term, following allegations of fraud by the opposition.
The court certified “in an unobjectionable manner the electoral material examined and this chamber validates the results of the presidential election of July 28, 2024, issued by the National Electoral Council, where citizen Nicolás Maduro Moros was elected president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the constitutional period 2025-2031. Thus it is decided,” said the sentence read by Caryslia Rodríguez, president of the highest court.
The opposition denounces fraud
The ruling, which “unequivocally and unrestrictively” concludes the review of the elections, comes 22 days after Maduro himself requested this process, through an appeal for protection that was never heard and through which the 10 former presidential candidates were summoned to the TSJ.
Rodríguez explained that he based his decision on a report prepared by “highly qualified and qualified” national and international experts, whose identities are unknown, as are the details of the validation. This process was carried out without the presence of representatives of the majority opposition, which denounces electoral fraud.
