Venezuelan Prosecutor: ‘Machado faces murder charges’

(ANSA) – CARACAS, 19 AUGUST – Leader María Corina Machado and other prominent figures in the Venezuelan opposition could soon be accused of being responsible for the deaths recorded during the wave of violence in recent weeks. This was stated by the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, in an interview with the newspaper Últimas Noticias, close to the government of Nicolás Maduro. When asked if Machado was about to be charged with murder, Saab responded that “at any time, she or any other person involved, including the opposition candidate Edmundo González, could be considered the intellectual author of such violence”. For Saab, the actions of Machado and González are the latest link in a chain of attacks launched against Venezuela by the United States. Venezuela’s attorney general is among dozens of Venezuelan officials sanctioned in the United States for human rights abuses, drug trafficking, corruption and participating in the dismantling of Venezuelan democracy.
