Venezuelan journalist Dayana Krays, who reports for the Ecuadorian media outlet La Data, was kidnapped in Caracas – 2024-08-08 12:26:06

On Saturday, August 3, the Ecuadorian digital media LaDataEc denounced the arrest by the Government of Nicolás Maduro of journalist Dayana Krays, who was in Caracas covering the rally called by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

“Urgent! La Data journalist was detained by the Maduro regime!” she posted on her social media account X.

She said that Krays “was detained by agents of the government of Nicolás Maduro, after going to her home after finishing covering the protests against electoral fraud in Venezuela.”

“In the last 72 hours, Venezuelan authorities have arrested political activists and protesters and expelled journalists for ‘fomenting hatred,'” he added, before demanding “respect for their human rights.”

For its part, the Association of Venezuelan Journalists in Ecuador (APEVE) rejected the arrest of Krays, a fact that it also blamed on the authorities “of the Nicolás Maduro regime.”

Krays also collaborates with the Venezuelan media Caraota Digital.

“Reporting is not a crime,” concluded APEVE, which called a press conference in Quito on Friday to raise awareness about the situation in Venezuela and the effects on the population, as well as on neighboring countries. EFE
