The Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Yvan Gil, rejected this Thursday the failure by the US Administration to comply with its commitment to lift the unilateral restrictive measures imposed on the South American nation despite having signed agreements with the President’s Government in 2023. Nicolás Maduro to lift them completely.
During a press conference, Gil recalled that these were signed between Undersecretary of State Brian Nichols and the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez. In addition, he read a statement in which he set out the Government’s position on the Biden Administration’s shameful decision to reimpose sanctions.
He stated that Caracas rejects the White House’s claim “to monitor, protect, control and manipulate the Venezuelan oil industry through its illegal policy of imposing coercive measures and licenses, practices in line with a colonialist vision that the free and sovereign people of Venezuela will never recognize and accept.”
He explained that with this decision the US is not harming an independent Venezuela that found a way to overcome the pressure measures, but rather any attempt to normalize bilateral relations and the international energy market.
He denounced that the Biden Administration’s failure to comply with the agreements was established based on mere internal electoral calculations and trying to harm the presidential elections on July 28 with the application of sanctions and violence by the Venezuelan extreme right.
Emphatically and on behalf of the workers, the business sector and others, he rejected this new imperialist aggression and made it clear that, with or without pressure measures, Venezuela will continue to build its future as a free and sovereign nation and will develop a successful electoral process. based on the effectiveness of its electoral system, the strength of the Executive and the Electoral Power, its Constitution, the leading participation of workers and the fluid dialogue with all living forces, among other factors.
He commented that no sanctions can prevent the economic progress that Venezuela has made in recent years, when the country identified a diversified model that focused on sovereignty, non-dependence on oil revenues and productive self-sufficiency.
By returning to the idea that the sanctions seek to harm the electoral process, destabilize the national situation and provoke a violent change of Government, he clarified that the lackeys of the United States, those who have asked for sanctions, will not be able to implode the country. Anyone who calls for sanctions and invasions must be considered a traitor to the country and will receive the corresponding treatment according to the laws, he stated.
He considered that the impact of the announcement made by Washington months ago that it would review the sanctions was very low, since the time to obtain any eventual benefit has been very short compared to the 930 economic pressure measures imposed from 2015 to date.
He confirmed that there is a constant dialogue with a democratic opposition, which made it possible to find a national consensus and carry out a broad consultation to set the date of the presidential elections. He stressed that this dialogue will continue to be promoted in search of stability, social peace and economic reactivation.
