Venezuela stopped being the first country with the highest inflation in Latin America: Argentina surpassed it

Argentina registered 7.7% inflation in March 2023 and was the country with the highest monthly price increase in South America, by a few points ahead of the rest. It even beat Venezuela, which scored 4.2%.

The local data for March, moreover, was a record not only for the mandate of Alberto Fernández but also since the 10.4% that marked April 2002, a few months after the 2001 crisis.

In addition to leading the monthly podium, Argentina is second in the ranking of accumulated inflation in the first quarter of the year, with 21.7%. Only Venezuela was ahead, with a price rise of 67.7%.

According to the first quarter of the year, the South American countries with the highest inflation are the following:

-Venezuela: leads the podium with 67.7% in three months.

-Argentina: accumulated a 21.7% rise in prices.

-Colombia: below five points, accumulates 4.56% in the first quarter of 2023.

-Uruguay: registered inflation of 3.50% between January and March.

-Paraguay: the cost of living increased 2.10% in three months.

-Brazil: the quarterly variation reached 2.09%.

-Chile: reported a price increase of 1.80% between January and March.

-Peru: accumulated quarterly inflation of 1.78%.

-Ecuador: prices barely changed 0.20% in three months.
