The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has been proclaimed this Saturday as a candidate to renew his position by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) for the July 28 elections.
«If you support me and protect me, this year we will triumph again along the path of truth (…). I accept and assume this candidacy and together with the people we will go for a new victory (…). A man alone is nobody. “We are moved by love, we are a family,” Maduro stressed in the official proclamation ceremony, according to the Venezuelan portal Últimas Noticias.
«I am here for you, for your strength, for your intelligence, for your wisdom, for your perseverance. I am here for the people, that is why today, March 16 of this year 2024, I accept the presidential candidacy for the July 28 elections. I accept it, I assume it and with the support of the people we will go to a new victory for the Bolivarian and Chavista forces,” he added from the Poliedro de Caracas, which hosts the V Congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
«I have been walking the streets in a beautiful reunion with the people, traveling from end to end of our country. Wherever you go, what you find is a patriotic people, full of heroism, but above all, full of hope,” he highlighted.
Maduro has taken the opportunity to denounce a campaign to make invisible the “resounding” support of the Venezuelan people for the Bolivarian Revolution. “It doesn’t matter. Censor me, ban me, persecute me, but there is only one destiny here: the popular victory on July 28 of this year, 2024,” he assured.
The leader has pointed out that despite the attacks and destabilizing attempts, “the people have been stronger than surnames and puppets like the fugitive Juan Guaidó, as well as the attempted coups d’état and assassination.”
“We have kept our word, social peace, there is peace in Venezuela even if imperialism burns. They wanted to do what they have done in Haiti, in Ecuador,” he reproached before highlighting recent achievements in economic matters, in food production or the protection of the Venezuelan people.
Maduro has recalled previous electoral processes and the order that Hugo Chávez gave him. “Overcoming the pain and tears we went to battle” in 2013 and in the following elections.
