MADRID, 29 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Friday, Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado asked the international community to pressure the Government led by President Nicolás Maduro to accept the registration of Corina Yoris as a candidate for the next presidential elections.

“It has become clear that there are no political or legal reasons that prevent Corina Yoris from being a candidate and that her exclusion, like mine, denies the possibility of free and fair elections,” he indicated in a message on the X social network.

Likewise, he has expressed his gratitude to the presidents of France, Brazil and Colombia, Emmanuel Macron, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Gustavo Petro, respectively, for reaffirming that the “fight” of the Venezuelan opposition “is fair and democratic.”

“We ask all democratic leaders in the world for their support for the full implementation of the Barbados Agreement, signed just a few months ago, to achieve free and fair elections in Venezuela,” he concluded on the aforementioned social network.

The Colombian Government marked its distance with Maduro on Tuesday with an unprecedented statement in which it alluded to “the recent events that occurred on the occasion of the registration of some presidential candidacies”, hours after the closing of the deadline enabled by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Lula, for his part, stated the day before during a meeting with the French president that the blocking of Yoris’s presidential candidacy “has no legal explanation” and called the situation in the Latin American country “serious.”

The CNE confirmed on Tuesday the final list of candidates for the presidential elections next July, which includes the name of Eduardo González Urrutia as a candidate for the Democratic Unity Roundtable, absorbed by the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

The Democratic Unitary Platform, made up of the country’s main opposition leaders, chose Machado in primaries as its candidate to challenge Maduro for the Presidency of Venezuela in the upcoming July elections. However, Machado was disqualified by Justice for a period of fifteen years.
