Venezuela exceeds 1,000 deaths from covid-19

Caracas, Dec 23 (EFE) .- Venezuela reached 1,002 deaths from covid-19 this Wednesday, after five new deaths from this disease were registered in the last 24 hours, reported the Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez .
“Unfortunately, 5 new deaths are reported due to this virus,” Ñáñez said on his Twitter account, where he explained that among the deceased there are three women aged 69, 80 and 87 years and two men aged 70 and 77 years.
It also reported that 190 new infections were registered on this day, bringing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 111,024.
Of the 190 infections, 176 were produced by local transmission, being Táchira (west and border with Colombia) the state with the highest number of infections (78), and the rest are from people who came to the country from Mexico, Spain and Bolivia.
Of the 111,024, “105,249 people have been recovered, representing 95% of the infections,” added Yáñez, who also assured that there are currently “4,773 active cases” of which 4,342 are being treated through the public system. of health, 16 in private clinics and 415 are in “home isolation”.
Venezuela currently registers a contagion rate of 14 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure that grew in the last week, as it had just reported two points less.
The Government of Nicolás Maduro, which made the quarantine more flexible this month, has warned of a slight growth in cases, and has criticized the lack of “responsibility” on the part of some citizens who, he says, are not complying with prevention measures of the covid.
In addition, on Tuesday he expressed his fear that the new strain of the coronavirus that appeared in the United Kingdom could enter the Caribbean nation through its neighbor Colombia, with whom it shares more than 2,000 kilometers of border. EFE
