Venezuela criticizes Sanchez for calling Gonzalez a hero – 2024-09-11 20:03:15

Acting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during his participation yesterday in the Summit on Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations headquarters.

The leader of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), the Venezuelan Jorge Arreazacriticized the Spanish Prime Minister on Saturday, Pedro Sanchezfor calling the standard-bearer of anti-Chavez a “hero”, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiawho -according to the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE)- the European country “will not abandon.”

«For Pedro Sánchez, Edmundo González is a hero. In other words, to be a hero you have to stand for election, disavow the electoral body, publicly denounce alleged fraud, without presenting evidence»said Arreaza – a Chavista and former foreign minister of Nicolás Maduro – on Telegram, despite the fact that the Spanish president did not relate the heroism he attributes to the opposition with the actions pointed out by the former minister.

The opposition figure is the subject of an arrest warrant after failing to appear before the Prosecutor’s Office for an investigation related to a website where the largest anti-Chavez coalition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – claims to have published 83.5% of the voting records, collected by witnesses and polling station members, to prove the “fraud” that – according to the PUD – occurred in the presidential elections, the official result of which gave Maduro the victory.

The ALBA leader criticized González Urrutia for not knowing about the “citations from the Prosecutor’s Office”who summoned him to appear on three occasions, after accusing him of “usurpation of functions”, “forgery of public documents”, “instigation to disobedience of laws”, “conspiracy”, “sabotage to damage systems and association (to commit a crime)”.

Without minutes

Likewise, Arreaza accused the PUD standard-bearer of “calling for violence in the streets” e “insist that there was fraud” in the elections, in reference to the post-election demonstrations against the official result of the presidential elections, in which the Prosecutor’s Office recorded More than 2,400 arrests and 25 deaths, for which Maduro blames González Urrutia.

However, The opposition coalition claims that those responsible are members of the state security forceswho -says the PUD- acted on superior orders.

After 41 days of the presidential elections, The National Electoral Council (CNE) has not published the presidential minutes, a request made by several countries, including Spainto clarify the questioned result.

Spain and many other countries have repeatedly called on the Venezuelan authorities to make the minutes public to corroborate the result. EFE
