The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, assured that he aspires to “rebuild international relations” and “rebuild the paths of dialogue” with the United States.
“Venezuela is going to become the land of opportunities (…) I am inviting US investors so that they are not left behind,” Maduro said in an interview collected by the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
He reiterated his willingness to reestablish relations and political dialogue with the United States, although he acknowledged that since the arrival of President Joe Biden to power there has not been a change in policy towards his country.
However, the president insisted that he will not give in if the American country continues to signal him and demands changes in internal politics, something that he considers would be a ‘game over’ in the negotiations.
“We would become a colony, we would become a protectorate,” argued Maduro, who claimed the role of Venezuela as a country that “is not willing to kneel and betray its legacy”, before US interests.
In addition, he defended “dollarization” as “a useful escape valve” that responds to a policy of “war economy”, but which is a temporary measure.

“Sooner rather than later, the bolivar will once again occupy a strong and preponderant role in the economic and commercial life of the country,” he said.
Regarding the direction of Biden, Maduro recalled that the American president urged “not to demonize” anyone in politics, for which he demanded that the State Department “stop the demonization of Venezuela, the Bolivarian Revolution and the president.”
In this sense, he regretted that to date there has not been a clear signal from the US president to rebuild relations with his country.
“There hasn’t been a sign from Biden. The only different thing that could be heard from some spokespersons for the White House, and the State Department, is that they agree to a political dialogue between Venezuelans, without intervention, to seek democratic political changes, “he said.
Regarding the economic aspect, the Venezuelan president asserted the role of his nation as a reliable investment destination as long as there is no “persecution” policy on the part of international powers.
“We have already shown that it is possible to win, the financial sector knows it, the bondholders with whom we have an impeccable relationship, know that it is possible to invest in Venezuela and win as long as there is no persecution and these sanctions; The oil sector that has invested in Venezuela and that still maintains investments in Venezuela knows this, ”says Maduro.
The president affirmed that the sanctions are “immoral and cruel” for a country, for which he has considered that at a negotiating table, even if it is private, the Biden Administration should accept it.
