CORONAVIRUS VENEZUELA

Caracas, Dec 22 (EFE) .- Venezuela detected this Monday 438 new infections of the SARS-COV-2 virus, which causes covid-19, since the total cases of this disease in the Caribbean country amounted to 110,513, the minister reported of communication, Freddy Ñáñez.

“281 days after the pandemic in Venezuela, we report that during the last 24 hours the country registered 438 new infections by covid-19, 373 of community transmission and 65 imported cases,” said the official on his Twitter account.

On the same platform, Ñáñez pointed out that the western state of Zulia, which borders Colombia, was the region that reported the most cases this Monday, with 138.

The central state of Lara, and the western state of Táchira, which also borders Colombia, were the other most affected regions, with 86 and 52 infections, respectively.

Meanwhile, 30 of the 65 imported cases, as the Government of Nicolás Maduro calls those of migrants who return due to the crisis that caused the pandemic in the region, come from the Dominican Republic.

In addition, 27 come from Turkey, “7 from Panama and 1 from Mexico, all with entry through (the coastal state of) La Guaira,” added Ñáñez.

Last week, President Nicolás Maduro pointed out that numerous cases of international travelers have been detected, since he had authorized flights to Panama, Turkey, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Iran and Russia.

Following his statement, the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) issued a statement in which it maintains the authorization for international flights only to Turkey, Bolivia and Mexico.

In reciprocity, the Governments of Panama and the Dominican Republic also suspended all air operations with Venezuela.

In his report on Monday, the Venezuelan minister also reported the death of five other people from causes related to covid-19.

Similarly, he asserted that 4,721 of the 110,513 cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic in the Caribbean country, 281 days ago, remain active, which represents a recovery percentage of 95%.
