Caracas, Jun 10 (EFE) .- The Venezuelan authorities detected 1,083 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, of which 1,082 are of community transmission and one more “imported”, reported this Thursday the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez , On twitter.

The largest number of new cases was located in the northwestern state of Zulia, bordering Colombia, where 187 infections were located, of which 71 were detected in the town of Mara and 55 in the regional capital, Maracaibo.

Behind is the state of Apure (119), followed by Yaracuy (98), Caracas (76), Cojedes (70), Aragua (68), Barinas (67), Bolívar (60), Carabobo (51), Trujillo ( 43), Amazonas (38), Nueva Esparta (38), Portuguesa (37), Miranda (32), Anzoátegui (30), Falcón (25), Guárico (18), Táchira (14), Sucre (10) and Lara (1).

On the other hand, the “imported” case is that of a traveler from Argentina.

Rodríguez also reported the death of 17 people in the last 24 hours from the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Of these, four were from Anzoátegui state, four from Lara, two from Caracas and two from Mérida.

The list is completed by five people from Apure, La Guaira, Miranda, Portuguesa and Sucre.

In this way, the total list of infections since the beginning of the pandemic rises to 247,847, although 227,699 patients have already recovered from the disease, which represents 92% of the total.

There are currently 17,367 active cases and 2,781 have perished from covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Executive Vice President also said this Thursday that, from the Covax mechanism, the Government was informed that part of the resources deposited by the Caribbean country for the acquisition of vaccines “have been blocked by an international bank and are under investigation.”

The statement in which Covax reports the blocking of these funds was later released by Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza on Twitter, where he explains that the Executive has received a notification detailing the deposits made by Venezuela and also reflects the retention of more than 10 million euros. dollars by the bank.

Last Sunday, President Nicolás Maduro assured that Venezuela did not owe anything to Covax, but that it was the system that was in debt to the Caribbean country, since the 10 million that were claimed had been transferred.

But the final recipient, i.e. Covax, never received them, due to the blocking of the funds by the intermediary bank.

Despite the inconvenience that has arisen, Maduro hopes that if the established deadlines are met, the Covax vaccines – slightly more than 11 million doses – should arrive in Venezuela between July and August.

Vaccination in Venezuela against the covid began to advance on Saturday, May 29, when the Government enabled at least 27 vaccination centers that, according to the Minister of Health, Carlos Alvarado, were expanded to 151. EFE
