Veneto, Liguria, Marche and Trentino in the yellow zone from Monday. Lombardia increases the number of beds and remains (for now) white

From Monday 20 December the list of regions in the yellow zone will be extended. Liguria, Veneto, Marche and the autonomous province of Trento will join Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia and the autonomous province of Bolzano. In practice, six regions will spend Christmas in a yellow band. This is the picture that emerges on the eve of the weekly monitoring of the ISS on the basis of which the control room will decide on any color changes in the regions. Color changes without a concrete impact on the lives of citizens (since the rules are the same for the white and yellow area, apart from the obligation to wear a mask even outdoors) but which are of concern as they reveal an increase in hospitalized Covid patients .

Veneto, Liguria, Marche and Trentino in the yellow zone from Monday

Autonomous Province of Trento, Liguria, Veneto and Marche all have yellow zone numbers. In the first case, there are 21% of hospitalizations in intensive care (a percentage even already from the orange zone) and they are at 17.6% in the ordinary wards. In the case of Liguria, intensive care is 13.7% and the hospitalization rate in the non-critical area is 18%. But also Veneto (the region with the highest incidence in Italy with 504 weekly cases per 100 thousand inhabitants), has exceeded the threshold of 10% of intensive care units occupied by Covid patients (we are at 15%) as well as that of 15% in ordinary wards. (we are at 16 percent) which marks the “downgrade” in the yellow zone. Finally, in the Marche region, admissions to intensive care are 16.7 per cent (given the control room). And those in the non-critical area have risen beyond the limit (15.6%). The control room on Friday 17 December will certify the color change for these four regions starting from Monday.

Lombardy remains white thanks to the increase in beds

Lombardy is also at risk (259 weekly cases per 100 thousand inhabitants). But on Wednesday the Region announced a new increase in beds in the ordinary wards, which went from 7,945 to 8,485 (+540). And so, although hospitalizations are stable at 1,185, according to Agenas data, the hospitalization rate has dropped from 15 to 14% in the medical area. While in intensive care the figure is stable at 9.5 per cent. The yellow is postponed for now.

Lazio and Emilia Romagna under observation

Lazio is doing just a little better (235 cases per week per 100 thousand inhabitants) with hospitalizations in the medical area at 12.5 per cent and resuscitation at 9.4 per cent (given the control room). Hospitalizations in Emilia Romagna are on the rise (291 weekly counts per 100 thousand inhabitants). ICU admissions are over the limit, at 12 percent. While those in the non-critical area are 11 percent.

Friuli Venezia Giulia, Alto Adige and Calabria remain yellow

In Friuli Venezia Giulia, the first region to end up in the yellow zone, the numbers remain very high, with resuscitation at 18.2% and the other departments at 22.6%. In South Tyrol there are 18% of intensive care units and 16% of hospitalizations in ordinary wards. While in Calabria, since last Monday in the yellow band, the admissions of Covid patients in intensive care have dropped to 11.8% and in ordinary wards to 20.8%. The region ranks third to last for vaccinated: 80.3% of the population over 12 is immunized against a national average of 85.2%.
