Vendée Globe. Rudder damage for Alex Thomson. Sport

At around 8 p.m. this Friday 27 November, 19 days after the start of the Vendée Globe, British skipper Alex Thomson informed his technical team on land of a damage to the starboard rudder of his Hugo Boss boat.

The team immediately advised Alex Thomson to disconnect the rudder to regain the helm. He now has control of his boat, but with only one rudder (out of both), and he is safe and secure on board.

The technical team is working to assess the extent of the damage.

Alex Thomson who, after struggling for 3 days to consolidate the structure of his boat, was back 100% in the race. He had been sailing a good part of the afternoon at over 20 knots before his problems arose. Tonight it had slowed considerably, and was in 12th place 640 miles behind the leader, Charlie Dalin.
