Weekends in the great outdoors or sports holidays, aboard a muscle bike or an electric bike, solo, in pairs, with family or friends, there are a thousand ways to do it. Veloscenia and to connect Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel by crossing eight departments.
The marked route from 450 kilometerswhich leaves Paris and goes to the foot of Mont-Saint-Michel by bike, passing, of course, through Chartres, capital of light and stained glass, is the subject of a new work by Marie Paturel and Lionel Monticeo, published by Glenatreleased a few days ago.
Loops accessible to the whole family
Through this guide, the journalist and the photographer have described, in ten stages, the Véloscénie and go even further, by proposing a dozen complementary loops to get off the royal road.
These loops cross the countryside and make us dive deeper into the natural and cultural heritage of the territories. From 35 to 40 kilometres, they give us time to discover the villages, in Eure-et-Loir or in the Perche for example, to take advantage of the nuggets: craftsmen, traders, restaurants or even good deals in the event of a puncture… is the must-have to have in your bag, which also includes maps and descriptive texts of the emblematic stages of the Véloscénie.
A zoom on Chartres and Beauce
Stage 3 of the guide invites us to link Rambouillet to Chartres, over just over 53 kilometres. The opportunity, between two pedal strokes, to stop and visit the maintenon castle, on the banks of the Eure before reaching the Beauceron capital. Chartres en lumière and the old town are particularly appreciated by participants in the Véloscénie. Without forgetting, of course, the Notre-Dame de Chartres cathedral.
Loops are possible up to Fontenay-sur-Eure, then St. Luperce for example.
Then let’s go towards Proust, for the stage Chartres-Illiers-Combray, 35 kilometers. Compulsory stop at La Madeleine d’Illiers. The opportunity to discover this small city of character and the agricultural beauce or to immerse yourself in the memories of Marcel Proust…
