02/05/2024 | (rsn, fg) – The 11th edition of the Velorace Dresden is scheduled to take place on August 11th, and preparations have been underway since last October. However, the long-standing title sponsor Skoda has now pulled out and a financing gap of around 50,000 euros has arisen. The organizer, the “International Saxony Tour of Cycling” eV, is now looking for new supporters with the “Become a Sponsor” campaign.

Vice President Wolfgang Friedemann: “Skoda has been fully committed since the start in 2013. This sponsorship has made many things possible that would otherwise have been unthinkable. Now we are dependent on the commitment of local and regional companies and sponsors, because of participation fees and… Funding cannot overcome the financial challenges of a major cycling event such as road closures, route security, logistics, set-up and dismantling as well as supplying the participants.”

That’s why the club is now launching the campaign “Become a sponsor – for the cycling event in Dresden, for children, people with disabilities and everyone.” Wolfgang Friedemann: “The goal is to establish contact with potential sponsors and thus the Velorace Dresden in the long term to secure. It’s less about getting a big sponsor in the short term, we hope to find several small partners. Not only monetary donations are conceivable, but also involvement in a variety of forms, for example in logistics, supplies, etc.

Friedemann also asks Anyone interested should register soon: “Even if a high increase in participants will not help solve all financial problems, the additional income can at least provide short-term relief.” At the same time, Friedemann assures that the Velorace Dresden will take place in 2024. “Numerous helpers are already working in the background to put together a great event this year,” said the Vice President.

However, it is currently unclear what other projects the club can manage, states Friedemann: “If the Velorace no longer takes place, it is also questionable how competitions such as the ‘Sachsentour for Kids’ and the inclusion race ‘Specialrace Dresden’ will be able to take part for people impairment can continue.”

In addition, the long-term future of the Everyman Race is in jeopardy: “We want to continue to organize this unique cycling project for Dresden and Saxony, and we will pull out all the stops to achieve this,” said Wolfgang Friedemann.
There are four distances to choose from at the Velorace Dresden: 20, 40, 60 and 100 kilometers; Last year around 1,300 pedalers took part.
