Veljko Birmančević: Sparta Prague’s Latest Signing and Champions League Ambitions

Sparta Prague has made its second signing of the summer, bringing in Veljko Birmančević on a one-year loan from Toulouse in France. The Czech league champion has the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan period. The news was confirmed by Sparta Prague on their website.

Birmančević, a 25-year-old offensive midfielder, has three starts for the Serbian national team. Sparta’s sports director, Tomáš Rosický, praised the player, saying, “Veljko is a dynamic offensive footballer, who can be included in the formation on the wing or in the under-the-line position. He has quality dribbling, knows how to bypass opponents, and at the same time uses runs for defense. In his career, he has already gathered valuable experience from the preliminary rounds and groups of European cups, including the Champions League.”

Last season, Birmančević made 25 appearances in the French league, mostly as a substitute. He also won the French Cup with Toulouse, although the team did not reach the final.

Before his time in France, Birmančević played for Partizan Belgrade, as well as other Serbian clubs Radu and Čukaričky. He also had a successful spell at Malmö, winning the Swedish title and qualifying for the Champions League group stage from the first preliminary round. In addition, he has made three starts for the Serbian national team in preparation matches.

Birmančević expressed his excitement about joining Sparta Prague, saying, “I chose Sparta because it is a big club. I have watched Sparta before. They have played a lot of matches in Europe against Serbian teams in the past. I want to play for the title and also for the Champions League. That motivates me. I knew that Sparta will play for the Champions League, and I like playing the Champions League, including the qualifiers.”

With his previous experience in the Champions League, Birmančević is eager to compete in the tournament again. “Back then it was really difficult. Now I think the path is a little bit easier, we start in the third qualifying round, but we’ll see. I want to play in the Champions League again and I came here for these goals. That means playing for the Champions League or the Europa League. We also have to win the league again,” he added.

Sparta Prague had already made another signing earlier in the summer, bringing in Michal Ševčík from Brno. The club is looking to strengthen its squad as it aims to defend its Czech league title and compete in European competitions.

How do Birmančević’s “G skills and great vision” make him a valuable asset to Sparta Prague?

G skills and great vision, which will be valuable assets to our team. We are excited to have him join us for the upcoming season.”

Birmančević started his professional career at Red Star Belgrade, before moving to Toulouse in 2018. Although he struggled to find regular playing time at the Ligue 2 side, he managed to impress in his limited appearances, catching the attention of Sparta Prague.

Sparta Prague, the most successful club in Czech football history, is hoping to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming season as they aim to defend their league title. With the addition of Birmančević, they have now secured their second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Alexandru Chipciu from Astra Giurgiu.

The loan deal gives Sparta Prague the opportunity to assess Birmančević’s performance and suitability to the team before making a final decision on his permanent transfer. If he proves to be a valuable asset to the club, they have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan period.

Birmančević will be competing for a place in the team with Sparta Prague’s current squad of talented players. With his versatility and attacking abilities, he is expected to provide competition and an additional attacking threat for the team.

Overall, the addition of Birmančević is seen as a positive move for Sparta Prague, as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. The Serbian midfielder’s skills and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the team’s quest for success in both domestic and European competitions.
