Veil. Six medals, including three gold, for the Blues in Palma – Sailing

First event of the season, the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca ended this Saturday in Palma (Mallorca) with the finals in all series. No less than 18 French people were present in the Medal Race.

Not a member of the French team, the duo Erwan Fischer – Clément Pequin is the very good surprise of this Spanish week since they won in 49er.

Kite: Théo de Ramecourt alone in the world

Lucas Rual (APCC) and Emile Amorios (CN Pornic), 13th, did not take part in this final.

Another tricolor victory, more expected this one, with Théo de Ramecourt who left only crumbs to his opponents including his comrade from the French team Benoit Gomez, 2nd.

Théo de Ramecourt’s performance is impressive with 14 victories in 17 rounds, including the final. Among the women, Lauriane Nolot wins a silver medal, the American Daniela Moroz leaves with gold. Poema Newland is 9th, Alexia Fancelli and Jessie Kampman are tied for 13th on points.

IQFoil: Louis Giard 8th

In iQFoil, in the absence of world champion Nicolas Goyard (Editor’s note: his brother Thomas as well as the Breton Pierre Le Coq were absent), the Carnacois now licensed at La Pelle Marseille, Louis Giard finished 8th in a competition won by Englishman Andrew Brown ahead of Italian Nicolò Renna and Dutchman Luuc Van Opzeeland. On the tricolor side, Clément Bourgeois is 12th.

Hélène Noesmoen remains the boss

Member of the Pôle France de Brest, Hélène Noesmoen, world and European champion, continues to shine on the iQFoil planet: the SN Sablais licensee remains a notch above. Lolo Sorin is 13th, Delphine Cousin 14th, Marion Mortefon 22nd. Lucie Belbeoch, positive for covid-19, having had to withdraw from competition in the middle of the week.

470 mixed: very good debut for the Peponnet-Retornaz duo

For their first high-level competition, the new mixed duo Kevin Peponnet – Aloïse Retornaz shone: a place on the podium (3rd) bodes well. Of course, not everyone was present in Palma, in particular the other tricolor pair made up of Camille Lecointre and Jérémie Mion was missing, who will resume training after the helmsman’s second pregnancy.

On the French side, Hippolyte Machetti and Albane Dubois are 14th, Mathilde de Kérangat and Sidoine Dantes 16th, the Bretons Hugo Le Clech – Colombe Julia 20th.

We note the victory of the Spanish duo Jordi Xammar – Nora Brugman at home. A great performance for Xammar which, a few days ago, made its F50 debut in the final of the SailGP circuit in San Francisco.

49FX : Sarah Steyeart – Charline Picon 26e

In 49FX, for its first official competition, the duo Sarah Steyeart – Charline Picon finished in 26th place, out of 56 crews entered. Of course, they are still far from the level of the best but we must not forget that they started training a few months ago.

Sarah Steyaert (34), Laser Radial world champion in 2008 and 5th at the Beijing Olympics, and Charline Picon, Olympic champion in Rio in RS:X windsurfing and silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, made the bet to qualify in 49FX for the 2024 Olympics. In this series, the other French crews failed to qualify for the final: Lara Granier and Amélie Riou are 14th, Mathilde Lovadina and Marine Riou 19th.

Words

Erwan Fischer (1st and 49th) : “This week took place in the continuity of the winter work. We arrived in Palma full of confidence. We wore the yellow jersey almost every day, it’s a real success. Now, the objective is to remain among the favorites on the next major international meetings, up to the world”.

Théo de Ramecourt (1st in Kitefoil): “That was cool! We had a wonderful week with strong wind conditions, it was very technical and therefore very interesting. I’m very happy to win this first regatta by winning all week. It’s really cool to be on top of the fleet and represent the tricolor like that. The atmosphere within the France team is great, I really enjoyed spending time with the other series and taking advantage of the recovery system put in place by the medical staff. Can’t wait for us all to meet in Hyères! »

Hélène Noesmoen (1st in iQFoil): “The week was quite rich with a lot of races, 19 in total. I made a lot of little mistakes, but overall it’s really great. With a very good first day, I was able to keep the yellow jersey all week. I know I’m not at my full potential, but it’s the consistency that has paid off. We all still have a lot of potential, our series is recent and is evolving a lot”;
