Vehicle sales fell in September, reports Inegi

Mexico City. The motor industry in Mexico stumbled in September, selling 116,543 light vehicles nationwide, which represented a drop compared to the same month in 2023 of 1.45 percent, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). .

According to the progress in sales to the public in the domestic market of the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (Raiavl), sales of light vehicles nationwide registered their first annual decline since April 2022 in September. Likewise, September trading is the fourth lowest in 2024.

Meanwhile, Inegi specified that after four consecutive advances, the sale of light vehicles in September fell compared to August, falling 8.73 percent, since in August 127,684 units were sold.

The Inegi, with the information coming from 23 companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), Autos Orientales Picacho, Giant Motors Latin America and Great Wall Motor México, specified that the growth in six of the nine months of 2024 supported the accumulated growth in vehicle sales so far this year.

In the first nine months of 2024, one million 79,413 units were sold, which represented an increase of 10.53 percent annually.

The Mexican economy showed a slowdown during the first half of 2024. While vehicle sales in Mexico grew 7.6 percent annually in the third quarter.

The factories have gradually returned to normal, while the supply of parts and sensors is definitively normalized after the problems of recent years. The supply chain breathes easier. However, consumption among citizens has remained cautious, given the change in six-year terms.
