Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, announced a statement with the same content today in the press room of the National Police Agency.
“The current situation is a serious emergency situation in which public safety is seriously threatened by various heinous crimes,” said Commissioner Yoon.
“From this moment on, until public unrest is resolved, the police are declaring special security activities to respond to heinous crimes, such as riots with deadly weapons and copycat crimes, with extraordinary determination,” he said.
Commissioner Yoon explained, “First of all, we will quickly suppress the criminal atmosphere by strengthening patrol activities by maximizing the use of police forces, such as local police, police riot police, and criminal personnel in public places that people often use.”
Then, he said, “We will conduct selective inspections and searches in accordance with legal procedures for suspected possession of a weapon and abnormal behavior,” and “I ask for the active understanding and cooperation of the people.”
Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun said, “We will not hesitate to use legitimate police force, such as firearms and Taser guns, for violent crimes with weapons, and we will actively apply immunity regulations for police officers with public safety as the top priority to support law enforcement on the spot.”
In this regard, the police also said, “In an urgent situation, we will respond with live ammunition without a warning shot.”
Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun also said, “We will take strong action without exception against irresponsible and reckless warnings of heinous crimes on the Internet and groundless fake news.”
Commissioner Yoon also said, “We will focus all our investigative capabilities to quickly identify and arrest the publisher and punish them as severely as possible within the scope permitted by the law.”
In addition, “everyday life used by citizens of alleys through active collaboration with local governments, autonomous crime prevention teams, and private security companies, etc.
We will secure the safety of living spaces, expand public security infrastructure, and discuss legal and institutional improvements with related organizations.”
Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun said, “I would like to express my condolences to those who have been harmed by a series of heinous crimes.”
A police official explained, “We have been instructed to place careers in densely populated areas, and today we will select 247 locations nationwide and deploy about 12,000 careers.”
25 fully armed police special forces tactical agents (SWAT) were deployed in Gwanghwamun, etc. in Seoul, and 99 were deployed nationwide.
