Automobile production in Mexico reached 378 thousand vehicles, while the export of units was greater than 315 thousand, data that placed September as the best ninth month for the automotive industry since records were recorded, the National Institute of Statistics reported this Friday. and Geography (Inegi).

The industrial sector that generates the most foreign currency manufactured 39,684 more units than in September 2023, which meant an annual increase of 11.71 percent.

The most recent data on car production in the country observed a growth of 25,968 light vehicles compared to August, which translated into an advance of 7.36 percent monthly.

Between January and August, the sector has assembled 3 million 30 thousand vehicles, an increase of 175 thousand 90 compared to the same period last year or a growth of 6.13 percent.

General Motors produced 97 thousand units, a figure that translated into an advance of 44.9 percent compared to the same period last year, while Mercedes Benz manufactured 3 thousand units, which represented a drop of 43.4 percent.

In September, Mexico exported 315,706 vehicles, an increase of 14,365 units or 4.77 percent compared to the same period last year.

Compared to August, the industry exported 23,036 more units, which meant an increase of 7.87 percent.

In the first nine months of the year, automotive companies that export marketed 2 million 591 thousand light vehicles abroad, data that showed an advance of 7.05 percent.

The company that leads exports is Nissan, as they grew 96.7 percent compared to September of last year, while Mazda only sold 7 thousand units, which represented a drop of 46.3 percent.

The results of the first three quarters of 2024 confirm the beginning of a new stage of expansion of the Mexican automotive industry. If this pace is maintained, there is a strong possibility that by the end of 2024 we will reach new production and export records.said the organization.

The Inegi also announced that until the ninth month of the year the sale of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles was 10,601 units, a figure that translated into an increase of 9.1 percent of total sales.
