Vehicle closures in the city for the holiday season

Tomorrow is the first Sunday that parts of Fifth Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic for the holiday season.

The municipal administration indicates that it is the first time that a stretch of the famous avenue will be free of cars, for the enjoyment of pedestrians.

Between 48th and 57th Streets, Fifth Avenue will be pedestrianized from noon to 6pm, every Sunday through Christmas Day.

The idea is to improve pedestrian safety and promote shopping.

Mayor Adams indicated the initiative as part of the Open Streets or “Open Streets” program during the festivities.

A study by the Department of Transportation indicates that businesses located on streets where this program occurs perform better than those located in other industries that are not part of the program.
