NEW YORK. Super talent Connor Bedard, of course, scored directly in the home opener with the Chicago Blackhawks.
But it was the Vegas Golden Knights who made history at the United Center.
They are now the first reigning Stanley Cup champions ever to open a season with six straight wins.
– It’s always cool to be part of stuff like that, says goal scorer William Karlsson of the 5-3 victory.
So after five straight games, the buzzed-about rookie Connor Bedard – “the next Connor McDavid”, according to consensus experts – finally came home to Chicago last night and it is impossible to describe it in any other way than that the saga just continued.
After being greeted by thunderous ovations during the team presentation, the 18-year-old, in a power play after a minute and a half, went out and whipped in the first goal on the new home rink.
– It is of course a moment in life I will remember. But it still doesn’t feel so good, he says after the final whistle.
No, because the home premiere never got any more fun than that.

Namely, it was the sixth consecutive victory in the start of the series, out of six possible, and no reigning Stanley Cup champions have ever started a season so successfully before.
– Yes, it is historic and it is always a part of such things, says William Karlsson.
– We simply took care of ourselves during the summer and were ready to play when we came back.
He himself scored his second goal of the season minutes after Bedard’s 1-0 goal – with a quick backhand shot on a rebound.
– But the important goal was the one Nic Roy scored right at the beginning of the third period. It was a “killer” for them, we got all the momentum, notes “Wild Bill”.
In the home box, Arvid Söderblom made sure to stop 19 shots.
