Vegard Ylvisåker on kidney stones

In last Sunday’s episode of “71 Degrees North: Norway’s Toughest Celeb” viewers saw it comedian Vegard Ylvisåker (43) he was sent to the hospital just before a stage.

Ylvisåker said in the episode that he felt something in his stomach as he was out talking to fellow attendee Fritz Aanes (44) while they were on polar bear watch. He himself believed it was probably kidney stones, as he had had them before and recognized the pain.

“Kidney stone attacks have symptoms such as sudden onset, one-sided and often intense colicky pain. Anti-inflammatory medications are the first choice in the treatment of kidney stones. If the stone does not come out on its own, shock wave treatment or surgical treatment,” he writes PEDIATRIC on their websites.

The comedian knows the condition well.

– I have experienced that kidney stones can be quite annoying and I felt something was wrong. I thought: “I don’t want this to turn into something worse,” she tells Se og Hør about the incident on Svalbard.

Ylvisåker is also well aware that it can “get worse”. He says he first had kidney stones ten years ago.

– Then I stayed in the hospital on morphine for a day. After that I was terrified to get it back.

But it would happen many times. The 43-year-old suffered from kidney stones a total of four times. Luckily, it wasn’t so intense every time.

– It hasn’t hurt much the times I’ve had it since. I may have clogged my ureters, she jokes.
