“VEF Rīga” will host “Ogri” in its square

“VEF Rīga” has won in all five league games so far, in the last match with 95:54 it destroyed the league’s last “University of Latvia” (LU). For “VEF Rīga” basketball players, this will be the first game after the dramatic loss of one point on Wednesday in their field in the FIBA ​​Champions League against “Strasbourg”.

Unlike last season, Ogre has already lost twice in the first five games of the season. In the opening battle of the season, they had to make concessions in their field against the “Vefis” with 63:81, but a week later at home with 76:83 they lost to “Ventspils”, taking the third place in the ranking of the Latvian team this season. In the last two games against LU and “Liepāja” both victories have been celebrated.

“VEF Rīga” with five victories in the same number of games takes the first place in the overall ranking table of the tournament, but “Ogre” with the balance 3-2 is in the fifth place in the competition of 13 teams.

Three hours later, at 5 pm, “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College” (“Valmiera Glass” / ViA) will host the LU unit in the Olympic Center of this city. The game will be broadcast from Vidzeme by the channel “Best4Sport TV”.

The people of Valmiera started the season with a victory over the University of Latvia, suffering losses in the next four matches, including in the previous duel against “Ventspils” away (90: 113).

This will be an important fight for both teams for a better place at the bottom of the tournament table, because LU has not yet won in the five battles so far. In the last match, they were destroyed against “VEF Rīga”, but in other battles the students did not lose by more than 15 points. It took place in the first game of the season on their field directly against the Valmiera team.

Also in the previous season, Valmiera won in both mutual matches with a difference of 14 and 10 points.

Both teams are next in the tournament table this season after five fights. “Valmiera Glass” / ViA takes 12th place with one success, but LU is in the last 13th position without victories.

In another fight, Tallinn “Kalev” / “Cramo” led by Roberts Štelmahers and Akseelis Vairogs and represented by Jānis Kaufmanis will host “Parnu Sadam” at 17 p.m.

Until December 5, 30 games between Latvian teams are planned. Meanwhile, seven Estonian teams will also play their mini-tournaments.

In the main tournament of the third season of LIBL, 13 teams are planned to hold a two-round tournament, after which there will be playoffs – a quarter-final series and a “Final Four” tournament.

13 teams will participate in the LIBL championship in the 2020/21 season – six Latvian units – “VEF Rīga”, “Ogre”, “Ventspils”, “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College”, “University of Latvia” and “Liepāja” also seven Estonian teams – Tallinn “Kalev” / ”Cramo”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, “Parnu Sadam”, “University of Tartu”, Rakvere “Tarvas”, Tallinn “Kalev” / TLU and “TalTech”.

In the first Latvian-Estonian joint league tournament in the 2018/2019 season, Ventspils won 15 teams in both the main tournament and the Final 4, but the 2019/2020 season remained unfinished, ranking first in the main tournament, which was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. occupying “VEF Rīga”, the second – “Ogrei”, the third – “Kalev” / ”Cramo” and the fourth – “Ventspils”.
