“VEF Riga” will give more opportunities to young basketball players after losing their hopes in Champions League / Article

So far, in five Champions League matches, the Riga people have achieved only one victory and it is already known that they will not get into the playoffs, because they cannot reach the 3rd place in the group of four teams, which would allow them to be eliminated in the first shift. Also, “VEF Rīga” announced over the weekend that it will stop cooperation with central player Ilya Gromov.

“VEF Rīga” was dogged by problems with the composition and among the most productive players there are only domestic players, but foreigners have not lived up to the expectations placed on them.

“Our team policy is changing with the withdrawal from the Champions League. We are giving more opportunities to new players, we are thinking about next year, the year after,” said Gailītis.

The coach of “VEF Riga” said that Gromovs found a new team. According to the coach, Gromov helped the team at a certain stage of the season, but an injury in the summer prevented him from showing his best performance. Gailītis also added that signing visiting players is always a risk, but the modest contribution of foreigners this time has various reasons, including player injuries and difficulties integrating into the squad.

In the final match of the Champions League, “VEF Riga” will face the Spanish club from Manresa, consisting of the Latvian center Mārcis Šteinbergs. In the first match between them, the Riga guests lost with a difference of 29 points.
