Thrissur: Opposition leader VD Satheesan has responded to criticism by Muslim League MP PV Abdul Wahab that Congress lacked caution in opposing the only private civil code bill in the Rajya Sabha. Satheesan told the media that Congress had opposed the uniform civil code in the Rajya Sabha.
Kerala Congressman JB Mather opposed the bill in the Rajya Sabha. This is in church documents, including video. Satheesan also said that while JB Mehter spoke against the bill citing Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar, Union Minister Piyush Goyal spoke. Hanumanthappa, a Rajya Sabha Congressman from Karnataka, also opposed the bill, Satheesan added.
PV Abdul Wahab noted that the Congress lacked prudence in opposing the only private civil code bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha. He said he did not criticize the absence of Congress members in the Rajya Sabha when the bill was introduced, but he stressed the situation in Parliament.
The ruling party bench had all members. There were only a few people in the opposition. Many political parties are fleeing the issue. Wahab stressed that if Congress is among the fugitives, the league should not be told. After his remarks, Wahab said some people, including JB Mather, came to the House and spoke out against the bill.
