VBI Skûlenboarch Factory Shutdown Due to Massive Copper Theft

Monday, April 22, 2024, 6:00 p.m

EASTERMAR – The VBI Skûlenboarch factory near Eastermar was completely shut down this Monday due to a large copper theft. Unknown people seized hundreds of meters of power cables on Saturday night or Sunday.

According to the plant manager, Kees Henstra, the theft happened between 1:30pm on Saturday and early Monday morning. The theft was discovered around 5 a.m. Monday.

Gantry cranes are standing

The four large gantry cranes were not used due to the theft. Each crane is powered by thick power cables that can be between a hundred and two hundred meters long. The thieves probably wanted to get the precious copper in the cables.

Massive damage

As the cranes could no longer turn, the entire factory came to a standstill on Monday. Manufactured hollow heart tile floors can no longer be moved. “This is a disaster for us,” Henstra told WâldNet.

We worked hard all day to get the factory running again. “The next tap is now clear,” Henstra said Monday afternoon. However, the repair is a big challenge. “All you need is the material and all the laying….”

Professionals

Henstra suspects that a truck was used to take all the cables. “This is what you do for home, garden and kitchen thieves…” For example, it is extremely dangerous to cut cables that may carry voltage.

It is not known at this time how the theft was committed. The cables were probably cut into pieces and then taken with them.

Confirmation

A report was filed with the police on Monday morning and the forensic investigation conducted a discovery investigation on Monday. Before that, a similar theft was said to have taken place at the Beton Dam in Akkrum.

Call for witnesses

Witnesses who saw something suspicious last weekend are being asked to report the company or the police.
