“Vazrazhdane” collected the necessary signatures for the referendum, with which it wants to ask the citizens whether we should postpone the adoption of the euro and keep the Bulgarian lev.
Until this morning, the party has collected 590,000 thousand signatures out of the 400,000 needed to make it mandatory to hold a poll without the need for a ruling in the National Assembly.
“As of 7 o’clock this morning, the number of signatures processed and entered in electronic format reached 590,000!!! And today we expect thousands more new signatures to arrive, because we have hundreds of notifications from courier companies about shipments,” the leader announced on his Facebook profile of the party Kostadin Kostadinov.
He added that his team will process the data until the last moment before submitting the signature to the parliament’s registry. Her submission is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The deadline for collecting signatures was April 10.
The signing of “Vazrazhdane” coincided with the pre-election campaign, with many analysts reading this move as pre-election and with the party’s aim to raise its votes.
However, the signatures are about 200,000 more than the result of “Vazrazhdane”, which is just over 358,000 votes.
According to the Law on the Direct Participation of Citizens in State Power and Local Self-Government, a proposal to the National Assembly to hold a national referendum can be made by an initiative committee of citizens with voting rights that has collected no less than 200,000 signatures.
The Parliament necessarily adopts a decision to hold the poll when this is requested by an initiative committee with a signature containing the signatures of no less than 400,000 Bulgarian citizens with voting rights and does not contradict the limitations provided for in the law.
If the signature is not submitted to the National Assembly within three months of the notification, the procedure for submitting a proposal for a referendum is terminated, it says dir.
At the moment, signatures are being collected for four referendums along with that of “Vazrazhdane”. Again on the subject of the euro is the signature of the “Father’s Hearth” National Movement. Signatures are also being collected by ITN for a poll on changing the form of government to a presidential republic. The “Our Future for Our Children” initiative committee submitted a notification to the National Assembly on November 22 of last year to organize a national referendum on the issue of leaving the EU.
