Vayrac. Director Francis Fourcou at Uxello

Francis Fourcou, director of the film “A Bridge Above the Ocean” will be present at the Uxello cinema in Vayrac to present his film this Friday, November 24 at 8:30 p.m.

This documentary film, presented as part of Doc Month, honors the ancestral link that unites the Osage Indian tribe of Oklahoma to Occitania, two stories, two sufferings, two cultures. It’s the same story that also inspired Martin Scorsese for “Killers of the Flower Moon”, currently on screens.

After having been exhibited like fairground phenomena in a circus which went bankrupt, three Osages (Little Chief, Big Soldier and Falcon Woman), wandered for two years on the roads of Europe, then arrived in Montauban in November 1829, crossing the Pont Vieux (only bridge at the time) in freezing cold. Bishop Louis Dubourg welcomes them and organizes with the mayor, the Viscount of Gironde, a fundraiser from the population to finance their trip back to the country.

The film evokes the fruitful exchanges that have existed since then between the two cultures, not to confuse them, but to illuminate the bridges that have linked them for decades, if not centuries, spirituality, poetry, secular rites. We discover the resurgent language of the Osages, via Chelsea T. Hicks, Osage poet, who travels to Occitan soil to meet another culture which is also fighting for its survival.

This film received the support of the Occitanie region in partnership with the CNC.
