Växjö turned 0-2 to victory against Djurgården

It was 2-2 right into the final minutes when the decision was made in Växjö. Djurgården’s Tobias Ekberg would clear away the puck, but did it right in the gap on Robert Rosén – who shot 3-2 with 1.42 left.

Wild cheers in the stands and it would come even more when Pontus Holmberg definitely punctured the match with 4-2 in an empty net.

A nice turn, just two days after Växjö turned a disadvantage in the final period away against Malmö.

– We have an incredible self-confidence. We know that even if we fall behind by one or, as now, two goals, we will not give up, says Roger Rosén to C More.

It was the Canadian new acquisition Matthew Lorito who gave Djurgården a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, when he scored his first two goals in the SHL in just over five minutes.

Växjö reduced at the end of the middle period, through Martin Lundberg. Before half of the third period was played, the Smålanders were also in contention, when the series’ points league leader Richard Gynge shot 2-2 in powerplay. Gynge has scored 13 points (6 + 7) in the first seven games of the season. Rosén also has 13 points (4 + 9) after his match-winning goal at the end.

The victory meant that Växjö was called out on the ice to pay tribute to the fans after the first home game since the corona restrictions were lifted.

Elsewhere in the hockey league on the other hand, it was the best away that mattered. Skellefteå followed up the 4-0 victory against Färjestad most recently by winning with the same numbers away against Linköping.

And in Örebro, Malmö held off and won 4-3, after having been 4-1 before the final period when the home team crawled closer in vain.
