First nose, second nose, purple color, tiled effects, soft or frank attack… It was a explosion of flavors and scents this Saturday, March 12, 2022. The 37th edition of Avignon wine competition stood at the Montfavet multipurpose hall.
A tasting contest, how does it work?
135 tasters were divided into 40 juries of three to four people. Each was chaired by a professional of the sector (sommelier, oenologist, winemaker, etc.). The others have been trained beforehand. The association Avignon Fair and Exhibitions of the Grand Deltaorganizer of the competition in form 150 per year.
For this edition, she recovered 660 samples, tasted and classified by the juries, with 16 to 18 samples each. All have been anonymized beforehand.
The rosés and white presented come from 2020 and 2021 vintages. For the red, vintages run until 2017“for a better tasting”, according to Jose Gonzalves, the president of the Wine Competition of the Foire d’Avignon.
2 winners: organic and conventional
Finally, 13 gold medals were distributed to samples from the culture biological, 12 silver and 5 bronze. Regarding the conventional culture, 82 wines received a gold medal98 one silver and 27 bronze.
