Vattenfall to Lower Electricity and Gas Prices in April 2024: Energy Supplier Responds to Winter Price Hikes

Feb 26, 2024 at 1:42 PM Update: 4 minutes ago

Energy supplier Vattenfall will reduce prices for electricity and gas again from April. The price reductions follow a few winter months in which energy was more expensive for private customers.

Vattenfall will reduce electricity prices by more than 10 percent from April. For a kilowatt hour of electricity, half of the customers with a variable contract no longer pay 33.94 cents, but 30.41 cents.

Gas prices at Vattenfall will drop by 16.4 percent from April to 1.2564 euros per cubic meter. In January, the gas price for the same customers increased by 20.6 cents. Then they paid 1.5030 euros per cubic meter.

Filled gas supply is favorable in terms of price

Vattenfall uses different prices for different groups of customers that may change at different times. The company purchases smaller quantities in this way and says it can “move more quickly with purchasing prices”. According to a spokesperson, the other half of private customers with a variable contract have already seen a price drop on their energy bill in February.

The new gas rate is cheaper than before New Year’s, just like with Eneco. At Essent, prices are also falling, but energy remains more expensive than before January 1.

The energy companies are presenting lower prices since international gas prices have fallen. The winter turned out to be mild, so the gas supplies remained full. That is favorable for consumer prices. However, energy taxes did increase from January.
