Vattenfall Increases Profit in Q3 Due to Rising Energy Prices | Economy

Energy company Vattenfall increased its operating profit in the third quarter. The company made money from the sale of wind power, among other things. This can be seen from the data published on Thursday. Overall profit for the year has so far been lower.

The energy supplier is one of the largest players in the Dutch market, with around two million customers. Many of these customers have paid a lot more for electricity and gas since the beginning of this month. This is because Vattenfall itself had to buy energy more expensive.

Despite high purchase prices, operating profit – the profit from core businesses such as energy supply – increased by 30 percent between early July and late September. In addition to the higher revenues from wind energy, this is also due to the fact that the company was able to attract additional customers in Germany.

The total profit for Vattenfall for the full year so far amounts to 17 billion crowns. This is considerably less than the nearly 42 billion crowns in the same period last year. This is partly due to the fact that Vattenfall received compensation from the German government in 2021, because the company had to stop work on a nuclear power plant earlier. If one-off income is excluded, profit for Swedes increases by around 8 percent.
