Vatican: Pope Francis presides over Catholic vigil – 2024-03-31 04:53:19

Pope Francis is presiding, at this time, at the Easter vigil of the Catholics, in the Vatican.

As is known, yesterday Francis did not go to the Colosseum, for the “Way of Martyrdom”, on the recommendation of the doctors, due to the bronchitis that has been bothering him for the last period.

Tonight the pontiff entered St. Peter’s in a wheelchair and immediately after, following the relevant tradition, he baptized eight new converts. They are four Italians, two Koreans, one Japanese and one Albanian.

“Easter is the triumph of life over death, of light over darkness, the rebirth of hope from the wreckage of failure,” Francis emphasized.

“It is the impressive power of Easter. It is the Lord, God of the impossible, who rolled away the stone and began to open our graves so that hope would never run out.”

The pope, finally, underlined that “in the same way the heaviest boulders of death can be moved”, while he finally referred to the “expectations of peace that are crushed by hatred, inhumanity and the ferocity of war”.

The ceremony was attended by 6,000 believers.
