Vassilis Kokkalis: No substantial answer for the compensation of livestock farmers from the plague (Video) –

A discussion on the compensations of the farmers affected by the plague took place in Parliamentwith Santa Boney to complain that no substantive answer was given by the government to the Question submitted by SYRIZA’s Agricultural Development and Food sector.

THE Member of Parliament of Larisa of SYRIZA he spoke of a communication game by the Mitsotakis government, characterizing as “alleged” the announcements for an increase in compensation for the animals that were killed.

“Today there are 83 outbreaks. The cases have fallen, it’s a fact. Of course, when Mr. Tsiaras said that by the end of September we would have got rid of it, it was 52. Today it is 83. But the very critical and serious issue of financial support for the breeders and for the compensation of the livestock for the animals that were killed and also for the animal feed.

After a long time, Mr. Tsiaras said verbatim – and I want to explain why we say a communication game – that according to the new decision “the compensation per head in the highest category for female animals from 150 euros rises to 250 euros and to 500 euros for the males”. It is a fact that at that time everyone thought that it concerned all animals, all breeders. But this has to do with the first category of the 2023 decision. Which category? The category with purebreds, not with half-breeds, not with their common animals which the majority of breeders have. Therefore, what was announced by the government concerns only the first category, the category described in article 8 of the decision 15/13-11-2023, article 8 “the calculation of the maximum market value of animals for sheep and goats with official pedigree certificates of purity ». I repeat the amount of 250 euros for females and 500 euros for males only applies to the first category, which has the clean blood certificates. Very few breeders own these animals.

You are ready to probably say that it will concern others as well. Accepted. When is the KYA? All categories here need to be updated. Specifically for common sheep. For sheep and goats of common or half-breed breeds, i.e. those that the majority have, today it provides 100 euros. Now we wait for you to say how much it will go. And males of breeding age 6 months to 3 years, 150 euros. We are waiting for you to say how much these categories will increase as well.

Second, feed. Give vs for feed. You know the problem very well. You are from the area. Breeders can’t. Give in return to the breeders,” Vassilis Kokkalis told the Parliament.

“A new KYA will be issued”

The Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Christos Kellas, stated, among other things, how: “according to the instructions of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, within the next few days a new decree will be issued which will revise the amount of compensation per animal killed during the plague and pox of small ruminants, in all categories. I emphasize that. In all categories, respectively.

Therefore, according to the new decision, indicatively, the per capita compensation in the highest category – the price is indicative – for purebred females, which was 150 euros according to the 2023 KYA of last year, the price will amount to 250 and males, from 250 euros that were predicted in 2023 will go to 500 euros. This is what the Minister informed the breeders.” The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food also added that “accordingly, there will be increases in all categories and in the categories of common or half-breed breeds that you say and I am sure that these compensations will not upset the livestock world of the country”.

SYRIZA’s head of Rural Development responded by saying: “I didn’t get it out of my mind, Mr. Tsiaras said that “in the highest category it will be so”. Question: Apparently he didn’t know. In the rest of the categories, you said that a KYA will be issued. Obviously, you don’t know what amount. This is what I am asking: Mr. Tsiaras was aware of the highest level of thoroughbreds. In the rest, which concern the majority of breeders, what will the amount be? Can you tell now?

No”.
