A working group is being formed in the Ministry of Finance to investigate the merger of the National Revenue Agency and the Customs Agency into a single revenue agency. This is done in order to more efficiently administer the collection of duties, taxes and excises, but also to optimize the state structure. There are common tax and customs agencies in Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Latvia, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, etc. This is an approach that is also used in England and America. This was stated by the Minister of Finance Asen Vasilev.
He gave more information about the merger of the two revenue agencies – the National Revenue Agency and the Customs Agency, a BGNES reporter reported.
“The revenue part of the budget is going extremely well. As of February 19, we have collected BGN 685 million. more taxes, duties and insurances than last year. Tax collections are up by 13.9%, the increase in insurance is 9.2 for insurance, and the increase in import VAT and excise is 11.2%. We are moving better than what was promised as a revenue part of the budget”, Vassilev added.
According to him, now is an opportune moment for the merger of the National Revenue Agency and the Customs Agency. “We have a preliminary analysis of what the merger of the NRA and the Customs Agency would lead to.” From the point of view of general administrations, this will be a serious optimization that will happen. In view of the overland Schengen, this will be a reallocation of resources to the Customs Agency, he believes. Vasilev commented that within a month it should be clear how exactly the merger of the two agencies will take place, so that tension does not arise.
