It is aggravated by premeditation and give them mafia purposes the crime of voluntary homicide which is contested, among others, by the colonel of the carabinieri Fabio Cagnazzoinvolved together with three other suspects in the investigation by the Salerno Prosecutor’s Office into the murder of the mayor of Pollica Angelo Vassallo. The late mayor, it is the hypothesis of the investigators, would have been murdered for having discovered a drug trafficking which landed in port of Acciaroli.
The suspects
The other carabiniere under investigation is the former brigadier Lazzaro Cioffialready sentenced in second degree to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the trafficking and dealing of drugs to Caivano Green Park. To him, to the entrepreneur from Scafata Giuseppe Cipriano and to the former head of the clan Ridosso-Loreto Of Scafati, Romolo Ridossothe same hypothesis of complicity crime is contested. These accusations had already been formulated by the Carabinieri Ros in Rome and by the investigative office coordinated by Salerno prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli during a series of searches carried out on July 28th.
The protests
Among other things, Carabinieri Colonel Cagnazzo is accused of having favored the Cesarano clan of Pompeii-Scafati and to have ensured that the investigations were misdirected for the other three suspects. The latter – again according to the accusation – took part in the conception, planning and organization of the murder of Vassallo, murdered on September 5, 2010 con nine shots from a 9 caliber pistol. The first preliminary inspections would have been carried out by Cioffi, then by Ridosso and Cipriano who made sure that there were no video surveillance cameras in the place where the murder took place. In the phase following the crime, Colonel Cagnazzo – according to the prosecution – “as previously agreed, it effectively sidetracked the investigations conducted by the Salerno Prosecutor’s Office” leading them towards a false lead, “that of the mayor’s altercation with Bruno Humberto Damiani e Roberto Vassallo (only namesake of the murdered mayor, owner of a local hotel) for issues related to drug dealing“.
Le fake news
Cagnazzo, according to what emerged from the ROS investigations, after the murder of the fisherman mayor, would have worked to spread false news about Damiani’s involvement by claiming that he had tested positive for the stub test. Damiani, falsely claimed the army officer now detained in the military prison of Santa Maria Capua Veterehad also been responsible for following the victim near the port of Acciaroli. Another fake news that the policeman, again according to the investigators, spread at the time was that of the existence of a ‘Damiani group’ dedicated to drug trafficking which was conveyed through the use of a dinghy. Among the information he had, which was not reported to the investigators, there was also the circumstance of the meeting between the killed mayor and the commander of the Agropoli carabinieri and the prosecutors of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Vallo della Lucaniawhich should have happened the day after the murder.
