Real Madrid, the Spanish Football League champion, announced that its player, Lucas Vazquez, had sprained his right ankle, the day after he qualified for the final match of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The Royal Club reported in a statement: After the tests conducted by our player Lucas Vasquez, a sprain was diagnosed in the right ankle.
The right-back left the semi-final match against Valencia, which ended with Real winning on penalties 4-3, after the original and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw, to be replaced by Daniel Carvajal in the 64th minute of the second half.
The Royal Club did not specify the period of Vasquez’s absence, but local media reports indicated that he would be absent for a month and a half.
The curse of injuries haunts “Los Blancos” with the start of the new year, as Frenchman Aurelien Tchoamni and Austrian David Alaba suffer from muscle problems.
The Brazilian Eder Militao also left the King Fahd Stadium in the capital, Riyadh, after he felt dizzy when a ball hit his head, while the Frenchman, Eduardo Camavinga, received a blow to his knee.
“On Sunday (in the final), we will have a strong defense because Carvajal and French Ferland Mendy managed to recover,” said Real’s Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti after the end of the match, and his team qualified for the final.
He added, “We have to evaluate Camavinga and what happened with Vazquez, which seemed more serious.”
