Vašo Patejdl: From Elán to Solo Success – A Musical Journey

Vašo (Václav) Patejdl was born in 1954 in Karlovy Vary, West Bohemia, to a Slovak mother and a Czech father, also a musician. The family immediately moved to Bratislava, where the musician spent a large part of his life.

At the music school Vašo Patejdl met the future singer Jožo (Jozef) Ráž. In 1969, when they were 14 years old, the two teenagers created Elán which would become probably the most popular Slovak pop-rock band of all time which also enjoyed immense popularity in Czechia in the 1960s. 1980 in particular, but which continued to fill the halls in both countries until their last concert in 2018. Furthermore, Elán is preparing his return to the stage for the fall of 2024, with concerts planned in Bratislava and Prague.

Alongside his collaboration with Elán, Vašo Patejdl also led a solo career from 1985. A graduate in composition at the Higher School of Music in Bratislava, he composed songs for numerous performers, as well as original soundtracks for several movies.
