Vasilijevs ranks in the top ten in the “Grand Prix” competition after the short program

Latvian figure skater Deniss Vasiļjevs is seventh in the second leg of the season’s “Grand Prix” in Canada after the short program that took place on Friday.

Vasiljevs received 30.30 points for the technical elements and 39.71 points for the program components. One point was subtracted from Daugavpils, so his performance was rated with 69.01 points.

The Japanese Kao Miura is in the lead after the short program, which scored 94.06 points. One position further down with 89.98 points is the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympic Games and the vice-champion of the PyeongChang Games Shoma Uno of Japan, while the top three are completed by the Italian figure skater Mateo Rico, who scored 81.18 points.

The optional program will take place on Sunday at 2:43 am Latvian time. 11 figure skaters participate in the “Grand Prix” phase. This season, there will be six stages of the “Grand Prix” and the final stage, scheduled from 8 to 11 December in the Italian city of Turin. The six best figure skaters will qualify for the finals. Each athlete can participate in two stages. Vasilijevs is also expected to compete from 11 to 13 November in the British city of Sheffield.
