Vasil Vasilev proposes a non-aggression pact with Russia – 2024-10-03 01:06:29

/ world today news/ “The territory, airspace and territorial waters of the Republic of Bulgaria shall not be used as a springboard for carrying out hostile actions or armed actions against the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as against Russian aircraft, ships and other objects located outside the Bulgarian land, air and sea borders”, suggested today the chairman of the “Vassilev Brothers” foundation, Vasil Vassilev.

“The commitment should be in force until the Russian Federation takes or announces that it is taking such actions against Bulgaria,” he added.

The proposal was made before the General Assembly of the national movement Russophiles. It can enter the agenda of the National Assembly if it is supported by a wide range of organizations and civil associations and introduced by a national representative or a party represented in parliament.

“Such a decision of the National Assembly would be entirely in the spirit of the traditions of Bulgarian foreign policy and would give Bulgaria the opportunity to establish itself as an important stabilizing and peace-making factor in the event of an increase in international tension, especially in the Black Sea region and the Balkans,” he believes. Vassilev. He pointed out that both in our history and in world history, there are precedents where such issues of extreme importance for a country have been decided with priority for strategic national interests and without denouncing existing treaties and agreements.

During the Second World War, Bulgaria was an ally of Hitler’s Germany and had declared war on England and the United States. However, Tsar Boris the Third, leaning on the support of public opinion, did not allow Bulgarian troops to be sent to the Eastern Front. Thanks to this circumstance, Bulgaria kept Southern Dobrudja and was not forced to cede its land to the victorious countries.

The validity of the NATO treaty would also not be affected if it is taken into account that in March 2003 the Parliament of Turkey, driven by the specific interests of the country, refused to authorize the use of the Incirlik base and other military installations on Turkish territory in the war against Iraq. However, no one has questioned Turkey’s membership in NATO and the importance of its arrangements with the US.

The proposal means that no missiles aimed at Russia will be launched from Bulgarian territory and territorial waters, nor will planes take off to attack Russian objects. But it assumes that Russia will also not use military force against Bulgaria and will refrain from hostile actions against it.
