Vasil Bozhkov took aim at the former prime minister and leader of GERB Boyko Borisov both as a witness against him and on the political field. On Saturday, the businessman, who is under house arrest, held a press conference to announce that he had become a protected witness in the case in which he claims he was blackmailed by Borisov and former finance minister Vladislav Goranov. So far, he has testified twice for four hours before prosecutors and investigators. Bozhkov says he paid tens of millions in bribes to keep his gambling business running smoothly.
The businessman stressed that he became a protected witness because both his life and the lives of his relatives were in danger. Recently, he and his family have been under state protection, appointed by order of the prosecutor.
He also applied for active participation in political life, although his party “Bulgarian Summer” will not appear in the local vote in a few weeks. Bozhkov stated that he would have appealed to the “huge silent majority” in our country, as well as to those 4% who vote “I do not support anyone”.
“We will convince them that they need to wake up and count on their support“, said Bozhkov.
He spoke of forming a broad coalition of all opposition forces. The task was to remove Borisov from politics so that the country could become “normal place to live“. Bozhkov commented that he no longer plans to engage in business, because he has achieved everything he could.
“My cause at the moment is for Bulgaria to get better“, he summed up.
Bozhkov also said that all parties that ruled the country until 2020 should leave politics. He also tried to make himself legendary as the first serious oppositionist against the management of GERB, explaining that only after he said that it was a “junta and mafia” did everyone else raise their voices.
The black and the white
The main goal is to remove Borisov from political life, Bozhkov emphasized more than once. This is not the first time that the businessman will try to act by political means. Already in 2021, he founded a party with which he ran in parliamentary elections, but achieved modest results. He is now talking about unification, apparently with the goal of more votes.
In response to a journalist’s question, Bozhkov commented on the political situation as a game of chess and stated that he would not be satisfied with a draw, but only with a complete victory for “white”.
“Black was left without a queen and the king in check. But despite everything, he deftly escapes. Takes figures from the so-called whites who aren’t really white, includes them and pulls their strings in the shadows“, he said.
Bozhkov criticized “We continue the change” and stated that they are behaving like “Komsomols” of GERB.
“I don’t see how they can justify themselves with some foreign policy goals and make unprincipled coalitions that they call “assembly”. We are a member of the EU and NATO. We cannot pursue any other foreign policy. And to justify ourselves that we will get closer to Russia and fall under Russian dependence, and that’s why they got closer, this is an excuse to their electorate” said the businessman.
DPS were defined as an invariable part of the status quo, and for the MP Delyan Peevski Bozhkov stated:
“In principle, I gained weight again“.
There are no contracts
The businessman stated that he had no agreements for his return from Dubai with the Bulgarian authorities. As evidence, he pointed to the fact that he had been arrested and could have been in a cell for months.
He also did not have a contract with the American services, to which he assisted with testimony and documents. Bozhkov was sanctioned for corruption under the global “Magnitsky” law. The same thing happened to Vladislav Goranov. Recently, the businessman’s lawyer explained that in recent years he has given about 25,000 pages of documents to the American services against Goranov and Borisov.
Bozhkov also said that the claim that he was extradited to our country was a manipulation by the prosecutor’s office. He explained that he had left Dubai voluntarily and had signed a declaration that he was leaving of his own free will and at his own risk despite warnings that his life might be at risk.
Regarding the documents that talk about extradition, Bozhkov said that it was a mistake in the translation. According to him, it is a regular message from Interpol to the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office and the police that he is arriving.
I don’t know them and I’m innocent
Bozhkov has stated several times that the charges against him are completely fabricated. In addition to the case of non-payment of several hundred million in gambling fees, he was brought to responsibility for a criminal group for murder and rape, and for illegal possession of antiques. The businessman asked not to be associated with any criminal plots because he has never done anything illegal.
Bozhkov said that he did not know anything about the murder of former Beret Alexei Petrov and it had nothing to do with his return to our country. He said that he hardly knew Petrov. The businessman also stated that he had nothing to do with the murder of Krasimir Kamenov-Kuro, which took place in South Africa a few months ago.
