Vasco Seabra, Estoril Coach, On Facing FC Porto Again in the League Cup: Aiming for Second Victory

Estoril coach, Vasco Seabra, recognized the power of the blue-and-whites in national football, but considered it possible to defeat them again and move forward in the League Cup

On the eve of hosting FC Porto, Vasco Seabra guaranteed that Estoril would “do its best” to defeat FC Porto again, just over a month after defeating this same opponent in a game counting for the League, although recognizing the challenge that it will represent to face what they emphasize is “one of the best teams in the championship”.

After having managed to freeze the Estádio do Dragão in the match of the 10th round of the League, on November 3rd, Estoril welcomes the Dragons for the 2nd round of Group D of the League Cup and the Canarinhos coach intends to continue the good performances that his team have been putting in, with this surprising victory (1-0) at Dragão serving as a clear example.

«More than what it may represent later on, it is what it represents now. This is the moment, the current moment, to face one of the best teams in the championship in Portugal”, highlights Vasco Seabra, who thinks it is possible to surprise the blue-and-whites for the second time in the space of a month, this time in a different competition.

The Estoril coach stressed the importance of presenting some different solutions and ideas to what happened a month ago, in order to cause doubt in an opponent whose power is well known.

«It is always important that we try to surprise, we are going to play against an opponent who has an excellent coach, who from game to game also makes several nuances that naturally provoke us to prepare for different things, just as we also look for different things to try to create that same surprise. It’s also true that I think we’re going to face a very strong FC Porto,” he highlighted, prepared for the panorama he will encounter.

The stage changes – the meeting takes place in Estoril’s stronghold, the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota – and the competition, but Vasco Seabra is certain that there will be no deviation in FC Porto’s thinking in relation to its usual philosophy, not devaluing in the slightest the League Cup and the importance of the match in determining the winner of Group D, which guarantees qualification for the final four of the competition.

Remember that Estoril leads the group, with three points won, so FC Porto, who will make their debut in the competition in this match, will have to at least score points in order to continue discussing with the Amoreira team the continuation of the competition – Due to the triumph already achieved in the opening round, a new triumph will earn Estoril the victory of the group and passage to the decisive phase of the League Cup, which brings together the winners of the four groups.

«I’m sure that Sérgio Conceição will present what he considers to be the best eleven to face us, I have no doubt about that. Due to the competitive spirit of the coach, the competitive spirit of the club and on our side we will have to do exactly the same”, assured the coach, who had a very short margin of recovery between the last meeting held by the League – a trip to SC’s stronghold Braga, on Sunday – and the reception for the blue-and-whites, which is scheduled for 6pm this Wednesday.

«The truth is that this game comes 72 hours after our last game, and with the trip we also had. We believe that the team is capable, yesterday we had a good recovery and our medical department, with its competence, also helped us to speed up the recovery process”, attested the coach, pleased with the squad’s ability to respond and with the contribution from the various departments in a collective effort so that everything can result in a successful match in a highly demanding encounter.

Vasco Seabra saw two matches against teams with the power of SC Braga and FC Porto just two days apart as an opportunity to gain value for the players and the club itself, which he hopes to see getting used to this type of context and competitive intensity. «I am sure that these players are preparing themselves for this to happen, what we are looking for is to give growth to the club and for the club to be able to direct itself towards that», he said finally.
