Vasco Files Challenge Against Fluminense Match Referee Decisions

O Vasco filed, this Friday, with the TJD a request to challenge the match against Fluminense. According to the club, the request aims to “cancel the effects of the cards applied” in last Wednesday’s game.

– The errors of law that have been committed systematically by referees are serious, they reveal a lack of knowledge of football protocols and rules on the part of the referees and contaminate the integrity of the results – says Vasco’s statement.

Referee Bruno Mota Correia awarded five cards to Vasco: captain Gary Medel was sent off directly with a red card, and João Victor, Zé Gabriel, Payet and Vegetti were punished with a yellow card. The defender was hanging and, therefore, will not face Botafogo on Sunday.

After the goalless draw with Fluminense, Vasco complained a lot about the refereeing. This Friday, the club did not send representatives to Ferj’s headquarters for a meeting to define the referee for the classic against Botafogo. The SAF had requested FIFA arbitration from outside Rio de Janeiro, but the request was not granted by the federation.

The challenge of matches determines a period of two days after the entry of the summary for the complaint to be delivered to the court. For a game to be challenged, there must be an error of law and it must have been “relevant enough” to the final result.

Once the request is received, the opposing party has two days to respond. Afterwards, the case will be forwarded to the TJD prosecutor’s office, which will have the same deadline. The challenge request is limited to changing the result and canceling the match.

In addition to the cards, Vasco felt harmed by the failure to award penalties and the cancellation of a goal, which was due to the VAR offside line. The club claims that the image is not clear.

“Vasco da Gama reiterates its commitment to working in partnership with clubs and federations to improve the quality of arbitration in a permanent and sustainable way for the good of football and the Rio championship.

In order to correct mistakes in a transparent and fair way, it informs that it filed a request with the TJD to challenge the match against Fluminense in order, as a priority, to nullify the effects of the cards applied, in disagreement with the rules, which generated harmful consequences for the club.

The errors of law that have been systematically practiced by referees are serious, they reflect a lack of knowledge of football protocols and rules on the part of referees and contaminate the integrity of the results and the potential of the championship itself”.
