Gigante da Colina had a good game and won in Brasilia, this Tuesday (7/2), in a match held by Metrópoles Sports
Vasco fans were present and pushed the team, this Tuesday (7/2), in the game against Nova Iguaçu, at Arena BRB Mané Garrincha. Gigante da Colina reciprocated the support and won by 2 x 0, in a match played by sports metropolis, for the 7th round of the Carioca Championship. Jair and Gabriel Pec scored the goals of the duel.
With the good result in Brasília, Maurício Barbieri’s men reached 11 points and are now preparing for the derby against Fluminense, next Sunday (12/2). Nova Iguaçu remains in 10th position.
The Carioca Championship duel was the fourth game promoted by sports metropolis in 2023, in addition to the Supercopa do Brasil, the classic Minas Gerais-MG x Cruzeiro and the rout of Botafogo over Boavista. Next Sunday (12/2), Corinthians will face Portuguesa in the DF arena.
Rodrigo, son of Roberto Dinamite, a Vasco idol who died on January 8, kicked off the match. Vasco scared right at the beginning of the game, with a great move by Nenê, but Nova Iguaçu’s defense prevented Pedro Raul’s header, after a beautiful pass from the midfielder.

Vasco started to circle the Nova Iguaçu area, but without being able to create great chances of goals. Nova Iguaçu closed and tried to leave quickly on the counterattack. At 25 minutes, Vasco managed to finish after a good plot of the attack, but Nenê stopped the goalkeeper Anderson Max.
Three minutes later, the Nova Iguaçu goalkeeper stopped Vasco again, with a strong kick by defender Miranda. The Giant kept trying to open the scoring, but bumped into the opponent’s defense.
But when the game seemed to remain goalless for the break, Pedro Raul left Jair at ease to dribble the goalkeeper and open the scoring, in the last move of the initial stage.

Second time
Vasco remained under pressure at the beginning of the final stage. Cornered, Nova Iguaçu finished for the first time in Cruzmaltino’s goal, but Léo Jardim easily defended. Behind the score, Nova Iguaçu started to go out more for the game and play in the opponent’s field.
But the Gigante da Colina added water to Nova Iguaçu’s draft beer: in the 26th minute, Alex Teixeira made a good move on the left and left Gabriel Pec in the clear to increase the score, to the delight of Vasco fans at the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha.
Despite the pressure from Nova Iguaçu at the end of the game, Vasco maintained the result until the end and secured the important victory in Brasília.
