VARTA: Gambling can continue for weeks – Stock analysis (The Shareholder)

Kulmbach (www.aktiencheck.de) – VARTA share analysis by “Der Aktionär”:

Andreas Deutsch from the investor magazine “Der Aktionär” takes a close look at the shares of VARTA AG (ISIN: DE000A0TGJ55, WKN: A0TGJ5, ticker symbol: VAR1) in a current stock analysis.

Gambling with VARTA shares continues on the stock market, for whatever reason. On Friday, the shares of the badly hit battery manufacturer gained 19 percent to 2.61 euros after majority shareholder Michael Tojner gave an interview to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Tojner is optimistic.

“We hope to have a solution by the end of August or the beginning of September,” Tojner told FAZ. This result would then have to go through the process under the Corporate Stabilization and Restructuring Act (StaRUG). “That will take another two or three months. My goal is to have stabilized Varta by the end of the year and to have a real future perspective.”

There are currently two rescue proposals on the table: one comes from Tojner and the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer Porsche, the other from four hedge funds that have bought into VARTA’s loans from banks. According to Tojner, the negotiations were very professional, but also tough. Everyone involved wanted to avoid insolvency. “We are talking to banks, creditors, the other investors and also the funds. And we hope to reach a result that everyone can live with,” said the 58-year-old, who is also VARTA’s supervisory board chairman.

The battery company filed for pre-insolvency restructuring proceedings in July. In the fight for survival, VARTA wanted to force the old shareholders out of the company, among other things. In addition, creditors were to give up a large part of their money and claims. The share price crashed as a result.

According to a report in the Börsen-Zeitung, resistance to the planned restructuring under StaRUG is growing. Around 2,000 private investors have registered with DSW to give them power of attorney. A three-digit number is added every day.

It could well be that the gambling with VARTA will continue for weeks. The “Aktionär” assessment remains: keep your hands off the shares, says Andreas Deutsch. (Analysis from August 9, 2024)
