Varied theatrical proposal to enjoy in Asunción

The public that enjoys the theater today has various options to choose from, with works of different genres that continue to be staged in different spaces of the capital. Among them is the version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which is presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Theater (Alberdi and Presidente Franco). With the adaptation of Marcela Gilabert, a cast of young actors and other experienced ones live the conflicts of this story set in the present, maintaining the Shakespearean language. King Hamlet, after winning the war with a neighboring country, dies in questionable conditions; his brother Claudio marries his wife so that the kingdom remains peaceful. However, the spirit of the king appears to his son and cries out for revenge.

Today, at 7:30 p.m., is also the last function of three bold women, presented by the Harlequín Theater (Antequera 1061 and Teniente Fariña). The staging revolves around the spontaneous meeting of three outstanding ladies of Western dramaturgy on the deck of a ship bound for New York. Helen, of the Three sisters, from Chekhov; Miss Julia, a character in Strinberg’s play; and Nora Helmers, the heroine of Doll’s Housestar in the piece.

Under the direction of José Luis Ardissone, the cast is made up of Jazmín Romero, Maco Cacavelos, Mafe Mieres, and has the special participation of Dani Willigs. Tickets cost G. 80,000 and reservations can be made through (0992) 442-152.

Gustavo Cabaña’s sole proprietorship, soweland, presents today, at 8:30 p.m., its last show at the Teatro Latino (Lieutenant Fariña and Iturbe). Tickets cost G. 60,000 and G. 80,000, and can be obtained through the website www.ticketea.com.py or at the door of the theater.

The show addresses the reality of the country, the social and economic effects after the pandemic, and above all the ability of Paraguayans to reinvent themselves and emerge optimistically from any situation. In the show, the humorist Gustavo Cabaña represents characters with Paraguayan roots who relate their daily lives. The show also features dancers.

FAMILIAR. Another work that says goodbye this weekend is magical seed, which develops an entertaining story with masks and puppets. The piece accompanies Alma, a young woman who travels from the city to the countryside to take care of her grandfather who is very ill.

Written and directed by Eduardo García, the play is presented at 6:00 pm at the Teatro Latino (Teniente Fariña between Yegros and Iturbe). Tickets can be purchased for G. 70,000, while advance tickets cost G. 60,000. Reservations are made by calling (0986) 789-779.

Another interesting option to enjoy is the classic Beauty and the Beast which goes on stage at 5:00 pm, at the Manzana de la Rivera Cultural Center (Ayolas and Benjamín Constant). The Teatro Team proposal is directed and adapted by Patricia Reyna. Tickets are G.40,000, and advance tickets are sold for G.25,000 and can be obtained through (0991) 322-213.

The play tells the story of a young woman who falls in love with the Beast on the way to save her father.
