Varenna (Lecco), 13 July 2021 – The fire that this morning destroyed a bus in a tunnel along state road 36, near Varenna, could have ended with a much worse outcome. The vehicle, in fact, was full of children – twenty-five – headed to Livigno and only the promptness of the driver, who realized that something was wrong and let them get off, meant that in the end nothing serious happened.
Inside the Fiumelatte tunnel the bus hhe started having problems, the driver pulled over, let the twenty-five children get out and, abandoning the vehicle that was starting to catch fire, accompanied them out of the tunnel. The children got scared but they are in good health conditions, the helicopter rescue brought the Areu doctors to the scene who also offered them psychological support.
Instead, it was necessary to put out the fire five fire brigade teams from Lecco and Bellano. Three motorists who followed the vehicle and were slightly intoxicated by the smoke that quickly invaded the tunnel.
