The Var prefecture has drawn up a long list of seizures and operations carried out in the department since January 1. Figures which augur a record year in terms of results for the police, whose “Place Clean” operations are already bringing results.
This is a record start to the year in terms of the number of operations, say the prefectural services which communicated, this Tuesday, February 27, the figures for the fight against narcotics for the very start of 2024.
Between January 1 and February 22, 2024, 181 operations “Clean place” allowed the “dismantling of deal points was carried out in the Var”. A figure which has more than doubled compared to the start of 2023. During each of them, “CRS reinforcements are granted” stipulates the Var prefecturenotably the CRS 81 specially created by Place Beauvau for this purpose.
Between January 1 and February 20, 73 kilograms of cannabis were seized in this territory, 9 kilos of cocaine, and nearly 435,000 euros in assets.
The device “Clean place” consists of operations recently set up by the Ministry of the Interior, and requested by the Head of State, to fight against delinquency, drug trafficking and in favor of the protection of the population. At the national level, in a few weeks, two tonnes of drugs were seized and around 1,300 people arrested.
Gérald Darmanin had also drawn up a first national assessment on February 10, after 4 months of existence.

Prefectural services say that 38 deal points have been identified in the Var at the start, or 5 fewer than last year. 90% of them are in the police zone, the rest in the gendarmerie zone, proof that rural or peri-urban areas are also affected by this phenomenon of settled traffic.
500 fines of this type were imposed on consumers, i.e. 10% more than at the start of 2023. The law provides what “The criminal fixed fine for illicit use of narcotics is a fixed amount of 200 euros, reduced to 150 euros in the event of payment within 15 days and increased to 450 euros in the absence of total payment within 45 days. “
The Var prefecture also draws up a list of some “great deals”, outside the “Place Net” system, both in the gendarmerie zone and in the police zone. Among them, we note that 300 kilograms of cannabis were seized in an abandoned vehicle on January 9 in Fréjus.
A search of the home of an offender, arrested by the police during a traffic check, allowed the police to discover 14,260 euros in cash and more than 4 kilograms of cannabis in La Seyne-sur-Mer, on January 26.
In Brignoles, more than 80 kilograms of this same substance were seized during a customs road check on February 8. The list is still long, with firearms found in Draguignan in January, 80,000 euros seized, and dozens of grams of cocaine.
